Hi from East Anglia,

Bought my Megane Iconic from a local Renault dealer in Oct 2004. It had been used as a demo for the 1st year and had around 4,000 miles on the tachometer.

No major issues so far and enjoying driving it.

I have off-road parking and a Zappi charger installed, and the ability to charge from solar on a sunny day - so noticing the cost difference between this and my previous petrol Renault Kadjar.

Since having the car I have not done any long trips so not tried public charging facilities yet. Have a long trip coming up in May so researching the issues for selection routes and charging points. Looking at web sites that are not charger specific and found Zapmap and Evnavigation. Of these Zapmaps seems the better tool to use. Any one know of others I have missed? And any recommendations?

Now looking for payment methods that do not require a subscription as I will not use the facility enough to warrant this. Contactless payment seems reasonable and covers many sites - but not all. Still need a dedicated card of some description to cover where Contactless is not available. The advice seems to be to make sure you have a range of payment methods to cover enough possibilities so as not to get stuck.

Appreciate and feedback on this topic.

Welcome! Generally the recommendation is go and try a public charger when it's not urgent, just to get the hang of it. Mostly they're easy to use with contactless or an Electroverse card. ZapMap is good for locating chargers but not brilliant at planning routes. Some people recommend ABRP but I find it a bit awkward to use. To be honest, in the one long journey I've done in the Megane (from Scotland to your neck of the woods and back) we just stopped to service, er, human needs, and charged wherever we stopped for as long as we were stopped. Once that was lunch so we got back to 100%. At one point I had 70 miles left and passed a sign on the motorway for a town 35 miles away so I just asked Google to find me a charger there. Took us to one right off the motorway with a coffee shop attached, perfect. A small bit of planning and it's really no stress. Having to fill up my camper van feels much more inconvenient these days.

Happy travels!
