Read an article in the Daily Mail today that said if you tax your EV before 1st April 2025 you won’t pay anything until you tax it next time in 2026.
Has anyone else heard this and could they confirm if it is correct?
Apparently you can tax your car whenever you wish, not just when it is due.
Tax your EV before April 1st 2025 for a year for free
Yes I've done it. Go to the DVLA website and enter the number on your V5C. It'll warn you that your tax is not due to expire and you will be "charged" again. Go ahead and renew it for a grand sum of £0 and you'll be good until this time next year.
We’re also planning to retax our Launch Edition at the start of March.
Frustratingly, from April 2025 here in the UK, all but the entry level low range Techno Scenic EV will fall into the £40k+ luxury car tax bracket, so from year two until year six, owners will have to pay at least (based on todays rates) the huge £605 per year road tax rate. We don’t mind paying £195 which is fair, but £605! That’s put us off the new Scenic, unless we found a used one registered before April.

Ahh, yes, this was a big factor when we chose the magane, had been looking at Kia EV6 and Hyundai Ioinic 5 before we cottoned on to luxury car tax that you have to pay.
