Hi,

Getting a good efficiency from the Megane E-Tech might not be straight forward, but once a few tricks are put in play, you can get some impressive results:

I took a trip up the motorway and into town this morning. Then took the same route back to home and got 4.0m/kWh

The trip computer is probably still reading in kilometres instead of miles, but is anyone out there getting a similar, or better efficiency at 9oC ?

Pretty good EV the Megane!
Sorry I've got dust all over the screen😂

Still awaiting delivery here but seeing I will use it for a daily commute, any chance you could share some of those 'few tricks' you did put in place ;)

Not been very far yet this month. Did a 5.1 on 25 March. Oh sorry that was in the Mini Cooper E 😜

Taking the Mégane to Glasgow and back tomorrow. That's been 3.0 or 3.1 over winter so we'll see.

Hi neilgall,
Not that Mini Cooper E again!😂
Those things are very efficient, but also very small so, no wonder!
I looked up the Mini on the EV-database and they're supposed to do around 4.2m/kWh which makes your 5.1 look very good!

Best!

No worries p50Kombi,
I hope you get yours very soon. After all it's not got to come far. Just a short hop over the channel!

So, basically (and there may be other ways and ideas)...

Pre-condition the cabin maybe 15minutes before you set off...you can program this in the car, or just do it manually from the App.
Drive defensively, and look way ahead up the road - slow up gently when you can, but always try not to actually STOP, just keep rolling until you can pull away again.
Turn the Regenerative braking off, or as low as it can go.
The Mégane has a power meter that shows how much power you're using as a Percentage% - use it.
Coast as much as you can on 0% power - you'll be surprised how far you can go on 0%
Don't break the speed limit (that's wasting energy, right?)...instead, use the regen paddles instead of the brake pedal to keep you from coasting over the speed limit.
The Mégane allows you to adjust the regen power on the paddles whilst also pressing the brake pedal - this sometimes comes in handy if you need to slow up quicker than you thought, and is less wasteful.
Drive in ECO mode as much as you can, but you may have to CONFIGURE Eco mode and set it to halve the air con power.
In between the seasons you may not always need the air con switched on - turn it off when you can.
Don't floor it! Pull away calmly, but strongly.
Make sure your tyres are pumped up!

I think that's it! I've been driving EVs for 10 years so I've had a lot of practice!

Best!

PS. sometimes though you've just got to put it in SPORT mode and have some excitement!😂

Thanks for the tips.
I actually just got a call they'll be delivering the car next week. Can't wait.
Just out of interest though, why does turning regen braking off give you more range? Is it not supposed to do the opposite and increase your range?

It's more that regen will rob you of speed if you don't pay close attention, and it takes more energy to recover that speed again. Use high regen in stop start town driving and coast on the motorway. One related tip is remember to turn regen down before using cruise control or it will probably slow you more than you want when you switch cruise off again.

Traffic to Glasgow wasn't too bad tonight - sat about 60 most of the way, hitting 70 at times, averaged 3.7. Not as good coming home but it was colder and a bit quicker 😉

Drove to my Dad's in Aberdeenshire this evening. 3.5mpkWh using cruise control at 70 from Edinburgh to Stonehaven then the AWPR is so hilly (and picked up my brother from Aberdeen airport so three people and a dog for the last 25 miles) it dropped to 3.2 by the end. A bit disappointing, but at 165 miles it's the longest trip I usually do and got here with 17% (38 miles) left so can't really complain.

Hi neilgall,

You see, I don't think that's bad at all. In fact 165miles is about right assuming it was cold outside?

You're right about how the Regen reduces your range, but will increase range if used right.

Best!
